Multiplex PCR detects Porcine Circovirus 2 and Porcine Circovirus 3 simultaneously in one PCR reaction. Porcine Circovirus is a DNA virus. It is unique for its small size (~1800 bp), circular genome, and hardiness in the environment. The emergence of PCV2 coincided with the occurrence of a new clinical syndrome of swine referred to as postweaning multisystemic wasting syndrome (PMWS). PCV3 was discovered in 2016 and has been associated with a myriad of clinical presentations, from PDNS to porcine respiratory disease complex (PRDC).
